Madison Elementary is slated for replacement through the Together Spokane initiative, with Franklin Park included because the school occupies space inside the park. The school is currently the oldest on Spokane Public Schools’ north side. Plans call for a two-level school building and a public recreation center on the Franklin Park property.

Design teams are meeting weekly as the project takes shape. Spokane Parks and Recreation is considering indoor sports courts, responding to community interest in having more court space. The final master plan has not been approved, and the courts could be connected to the school or positioned beside it.

Voters approved the broader Together Spokane improvements last November. People at Franklin Park can complete a survey about possible additions. Spokane Parks and Recreation expects park construction to begin around fall 2028. Spokane Public Schools is collecting input with the city before setting a schedule for demolition and deciding when students would leave Madison Elementary.
